Breaking: Rivers PDP NWC Ousts National Chairman, Secretary for Anti-Party Actions

The internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has escalated, with the National Working Committee (NWC) removing Acting National Chairman, Amb. Umar Damagum, and Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, over alleged anti-party activities.

Reports from Abuja reveal that the suspension was decided during an emergency NWC meeting, attended by the majority of members, which concluded in the early hours of Friday.

The statement said: “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP has carefully reviewed several complaints against the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Illiya Damagum, and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu. The main concern is a letter they sent to the Court of Appeal, which goes against the party’s stance in the case involving 27 former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, who left the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and lost their seats.

“The NWC condemned the actions of the Acting National Chairman and National Secretary, calling it anti-party behavior and a serious breach of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) and their oath of office.

“As a result, the NWC, following Sections 57, 58, and 59 of the PDP Constitution, has suspended Ambassador Illiya Damagum and Senator Samuel Anyanwu from their roles as Acting National Chairman and National Secretary, and referred them to the National Disciplinary Committee for further investigation.

“During this time, both officials are barred from attending any NWC meetings, activities, or programs until the National Disciplinary Committee completes its investigation.”

BoT Summons:

The party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) had previously reminded all party members to appear before the disciplinary committee if summoned. At the 78th board meeting, BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara urged the NWC to act quickly and ensure the National Executive Committee (NEC) meets as planned on October 24.
