The Nigerian Senate has called for an official apology from the Libyan government following the mistreatment of the Super Eagles upon their arrival for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier. This urgent request was made after a point of order was raised by Senator Sumaila Kawu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, highlighting the incident as a serious violation of human dignity and international standards.

During the session, Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, condemned the treatment of the players, stating it was unacceptable and contrary to the principles of sports, which should promote unity and camaraderie among nations. He emphasized the importance of providing Libya an opportunity to rectify the situation and extend an apology.

Senator Jibrin expressed gratitude to Senator Kawu for bringing the issue to light, reinforcing Nigeria’s position as a leader in African diplomacy and the need for respectful interactions in international sports. The Senate is now advocating for a thorough investigation into the incident to ensure such occurrences do not happen again.
