Vice President Kashim Shettima and Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State have embarked on a strategic visit to Sweden, seeking innovative solutions for Nigeria’s transportation and telecommunications sectors.

In a statement released on Saturday from Jos, Mr. Gyang Bere, the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the governor, highlighted that this official visit forms part of broader efforts to modernize Nigeria’s infrastructure.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the two-day visit saw the delegation, which included high-level government officials, engage with leading industry players at Scania and Ericsson, companies renowned for their cutting-edge technology.

At Scania’s headquarters in Södertälje, the Nigerian team explored biofuel-powered solutions with the automotive giant. Scania, a global leader in the production of heavy-duty trucks and buses, aims to partner with Nigeria to revolutionize its transportation sector with sustainable innovations. Fredrik Wijkander of Scania guided the delegation, underscoring the potential of biofuel technologies to transform Nigeria’s transit systems.

Vice President Shettima also spearheaded discussions with Ericsson, a telecommunications giant, to enhance Nigeria’s digital infrastructure. The delegation was warmly received by Mr. Patrick Johansson, Senior VP and Head of Middle East and Africa, alongside Mr. Peter Olusoji Ogundele, Head of Ericsson Nigeria. The talks focused on accelerating the deployment of 5G technology and boosting digital infrastructure across Nigeria.

A significant milestone from the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Nigeria and Ericsson, paving the way for 5G implementation, which is expected to drive economic growth and technological advancement in key sectors.
