  • Police Advisory: The Enugu State Commissioner of Police urged residents to ignore the directive and continue with their daily lives.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has officially distanced itself from a sit-at-home order purportedly announced for October 21 and 22 in the southeastern states, urging residents to disregard it. IPOB characterized the declaration as illegal and stated that they were unaware of its origin.

The sit-at-home call was made by an unidentified individual in a viral video, who claimed that residents should stay indoors on those dates due to the supposed launch of Biafran armored vehicles. In response, IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful clarified that the directive did not originate from their group.

In a telephone interview with The Punch, Powerful attributed the video to infiltrators based in Finland, describing them as criminals. He emphasized, “IPOB did not declare any sit-at-home order on October 21 and 22. The illegal order is from criminal elements who are not our members. We urge our people to ignore the directive and continue their normal activities.”

He reiterated that IPOB does not endorse unnecessary sit-at-home orders, having suspended any previous ones. Powerful cautioned that those issuing such directives are to be ignored to prevent panic among the populace.

Additionally, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has advised residents to dismiss the viral video and its instructions. In a statement released by police spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe, he encouraged citizens to carry out their lawful activities without fear.
