The Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO) in Benue State has suspended its inaugural Vice Chancellor, Professor Innocent Ujah, over allegations of gross misconduct and willful disregard for authority.

In his stead, Professor Ediga Bede Agbo has been appointed as the acting Vice Chancellor. This decision was confirmed in a statement released late Monday by the university’s Coordinator of Information, Publication, and Public Relations, James Onogwu, on behalf of the Registrar. The suspension was reached during a special meeting of FUHSO’s Governing Council on October 17, 2024, chaired by Pro-Chancellor Engr. Ohieku Muhammed Salami.

The Governing Council cited “alleged gross misconduct and willful disregard for authority” as the reasons for Ujah’s suspension, following a series of mounting accusations against him. In response, the council appointed Professor Agbo, a respected microbiologist and native of Otukpo, to serve as acting Vice Chancellor for an initial term of six months. Professor Agbo, a distinguished academic in his sixties, has now officially assumed his new role.
