“BREAKING: Senate Holds Closed-Door Session Amid Senator-NDLEA Clash”

The 10th Senate, led by President Godswill Akpabio, is currently in a closed-door session following a motion on an issue of privilege raised by Deputy Senate Leader Oyelola Ashiru. Ashiru cited several Senate Standing Orders regarding privileges and the rights of senators, emphasizing the need for immediate attention to matters of privilege.

After Ashiru’s initial remarks, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele moved for an executive session, which was seconded by Senate Minority Whip Osita Ngwu. Akpabio confirmed the motion, allowing the Senate to discuss matters of national importance privately.

While Ashiru did not specify the issue, it follows a recent clash between him and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). Last week, during a debate on a drug rehabilitation bill, Ashiru criticized the NDLEA as “the most corrupt and compromised agency.” In response, the NDLEA accused him of having a personal vendetta, linking his remarks to past arrests at his residence.

Ashiru’s spokesperson defended him, challenging the NDLEA’s claims and questioning the agency’s integrity. The situation has heightened tensions between the senator and the NDLEA, setting the stage for further discussions in the closed session.
