World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the Paris Masters, citing an intestinal virus, as confirmed by tournament organizers. The Italian star, who rose to the top ranking in October, shared his disappointment on social media, explaining that although he is recovering, he’s not fit to compete.
French player Arthur Cazaux, advancing from the qualifiers, will take Sinner’s place in the draw, facing either Corentin Moutet or Ben Shelton in his opening match. The Paris Masters was set to be Sinner’s final tune-up before the ATP Finals in Turin, where he’ll join the top eight players from the season from November 10-17. Following Turin, Sinner is slated to represent Italy in the Davis Cup Finals in Spain.
This season marked Sinner’s breakthrough, with two Grand Slam wins at the Australian and US Opens and three Masters 1000 titles. However, he faces a pending doping case appeal, adding complexity to his standout season.
