Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South, has strongly advised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State not to prioritize the interests of former governor Rabiu Kwankwaso over the welfare of the people. This warning comes amid rumors within the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) suggesting that Kwankwaso exerts undue influence over Yusuf’s administration, with claims that he controls key policy decisions.
In an interview with journalists in Abuja, Sumaila cautioned that the people of Kano will not forgive the governor if he fails to deliver on his promises. He emphasized that while it is important for Yusuf to work with Kwankwaso, the governor must ensure that he serves the broader interests of all Kano citizens, not just those of Kwankwasiyya or any specific group.
Sumaila remarked, “If you wrong one person, you can seek forgiveness, and they may forgive you. But if you betray over 20 million people—especially those who supported you—it will be hard for you to gain their forgiveness.”
He also reminded the governor that his administration should be inclusive and fair to all factions. “His government is not only about the rights of Kwankwaso or Kwankwasiyya members. There are also the rights of NNPP members, APC supporters, PDP followers, and even those from smaller parties who helped him get elected,” Sumaila stated.
The senator concluded by stressing that the governor must be conscious of his duty to protect the rights of every citizen in Kano, irrespective of their political affiliation.
