Gunmen attacked an army checkpoint early Wednesday at Ekenobizi, a border community between Abia and Imo states, resulting in the deaths of two soldiers. According to a military source, the attack happened around 6:18 a.m. when the gunmen arrived in a white Lexus.
Lieutenant Colonel Jonah Unuakhalu of the Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA confirmed the incident, attributing the attack to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network. “Our troops bravely repelled the assault, forcing the attackers to flee with injuries, leaving behind one Sienna and a Lexus Jeep,” Unuakhalu stated, adding, “Two soldiers paid the supreme price in the line of duty.”
The Joint Task Force called on South East residents, especially in Abia, to provide credible information to help locate the attackers. They assured the public of their ongoing commitment to protecting lives and property with professionalism and adherence to global standards.
