  • Both the Ugwuaji-Makurdi-Jos Line 2 and the Ugwuaji-Apir Line 1 are now operational, enhancing power supply to the North East and North West.
  • The restoration follows a series of grid collapses and vandalization of TCN facilities in recent months.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully restored power supply to large areas in Northern Nigeria following the repair of its 330-kilovolt Ugwuaji-Makurdi-Jos Transmission Line 2. The company made the announcement in a statement on Thursday, highlighting the significant step in improving power distribution across the region.

The restoration comes just weeks after TCN had fixed and re-energized another key transmission line, the 330 kV Ugwuaji-Apir Transmission Line 1, which helped restore power to Bauchi and Gombe States on Wednesday at around 4:56 pm.

In Thursday’s update, TCN confirmed that the Ugwuaji-Makurdi-Jos 330kV Line 2 was successfully fixed and energized by 11:50 am. With the restoration of both transmission lines, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, and Yola Distribution Companies can now distribute more power to customers within their respective franchise areas.

The company emphasized that the reactivation of both transmission lines will result in a substantial improvement in power supply to the North East and North West regions. TCN also expressed its appreciation to affected electricity customers in Northern Nigeria for their patience and understanding during the outage.

This development comes amid ongoing challenges for the national grid, including frequent collapses and increasing cases of vandalism targeting TCN infrastructure in recent months.
