  • NNPCL clarified that the project is progressing as planned, with the final completion date to be determined after further inspections and work.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has stated that it cannot yet provide a specific completion date for the Quick Fix Project at the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC), despite earlier assurances from the KRPC Managing Director, Dr. Mustafa Sugungun. Sugungun had previously promised that the $741 million rehabilitation project, awarded to South Korea’s Daewoo Engineering & Construction, would be completed by the end of 2024.

At the commissioning of a renovated school and a solar-powered borehole in the Rido Community of Kaduna State, Sugungun reaffirmed NNPCL’s commitment to supporting local communities through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives but did not offer an update on whether the original timeline remains achievable.

Represented by the Manager of Operations, Mr. Emmanuel Ajiboye, Sugungun highlighted the potential economic benefits of the Quick Fix Project, including job creation, support for local businesses, and enhanced opportunities for petty traders. The school renovation aims to improve the learning environment for students, while the borehole project seeks to address water scarcity in the area. Ajiboye also appealed to the Rido community to support the project, stressing that its success would strengthen KRPC’s relationship with local residents.

NNPCL spokesperson, Femi Soneye, addressed reports suggesting that the refinery’s rehabilitation might be completed by December 2024. Soneye clarified that the project is progressing as planned within the defined scope of work, but the completion date will depend on factors such as third-party inspections and any additional tasks identified during the process. He assured that a definitive completion date would be announced once all requirements are met.
