Timothy Mgbere, Secretary of the Alesa community stakeholders, has accused the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) of misleading Nigerians about the operations of the recently “revived” Port Harcourt Refinery. Speaking on Arise TV on Thursday, Mgbere alleged that the petroleum products being loaded were not freshly refined but old stock left in storage tanks for three years.

Mgbere further revealed that only six trucks loaded products on Tuesday, contradicting NNPCL’s claim that 200 trucks would be dispatched daily. He also dismissed the company’s assertion that the refinery had begun processing 1.4 million barrels of crude per day.

NNPCL had earlier announced the start of operations at the refinery and the distribution of petroleum products, with presidential spokesperson Sunday Dare touting 200 trucks as ready to transport the products. Mgbere’s revelations cast doubt on these claims, suggesting a lack of transparency in the refinery’s activities.
