In a shocking turn of events on November 23, 2024, a self-proclaimed herbalist in Kuchibuyi Village, Abuja, landed in critical condition after testing a self-made ‘bulletproof’ charm. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command revealed that Ismail Usman, known for his unconventional practices, shot himself in the stomach with a shotgun to demonstrate the charm’s supposed efficacy.
The experiment backfired disastrously, leaving Usman with severe injuries. Officers from the Byazhin Division responded promptly to a distress call from a concerned resident, Shandam Michael. Usman was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital before being transferred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital for advanced medical care.
A subsequent search of Usman’s residence uncovered the shotgun and a collection of charms linked to the ill-fated trial. Police investigations are ongoing, with Usman facing potential charges for illegal firearm possession and attempted suicide under the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, condemned the act, emphasizing the dangers of illegal firearms and reckless behavior. SP Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer, called on residents to report suspicious activities to prevent similar incidents.
