Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has issued a statement distancing himself from a fraudulent empowerment scheme that promises to pay N65,000 to Nigerians. The scheme, purportedly linked to him, is being advertised by a group called “Travelling Abroad Opportunities” on social media under the guise of an “Atiku Grant by FG.”
Atiku, through his media aide Paul Ibe, clarified that neither he nor any organization associated with him is running any such scheme. He described the initiative as a scam designed to deceive and defraud innocent Nigerians. The scam encourages people to provide personal details such as names, account numbers, and bank information in exchange for a supposed N65,000 grant.
Atiku urged Nigerians to avoid the fraudulent scheme and warned that if he were ever to initiate any empowerment program, it would be done directly, not through third-party organizations. He also called on security agencies to investigate the promoters of the scheme and similar fraudulent activities, urging that they be brought to justice.
