FIFA has confirmed that The Best Football Awards 2024, celebrating the top talent in men’s and women’s football, will be announced in a live event from Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday. This prestigious ceremony will highlight the best performances at both club and national levels over the past year.
In the men’s category, Rodri, the Ballon d’Or winner, is nominated alongside other star players such as Vinicius Jr.—who notably boycotted the October Ballon d’Or ceremony. Vinicius was a frontrunner for the award after his key role in Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League, La Liga, and Spanish Super Cup triumphs, but chose not to attend following the revelation that no Real Madrid player would claim the Ballon d’Or. Other nominees include Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi, and Jude Bellingham.
In the women’s category, Aitana Bonmatí is the leading contender for Best Women’s Player, after an exceptional year with Barcelona, which included a historic quadruple, as well as helping Spain secure the Nations League. However, Alexia Putellas, a two-time winner of the Ballon d’Or Féminin, is absent from the nominees this year.
A new addition to the awards, the FIFA Marta Award, will recognize the best goal in women’s football, named after the Brazilian football icon, while the FIFA Puskás Award will honor the best goal in men’s football.
The nominees across other categories include top goalkeepers like Emiliano Martínez, Mary Earps, and Andriy Lunin, and leading coaches such as Pep Guardiola, Lionel Scaloni, and Carlo Ancelotti. The awards will also spotlight coaches in women’s football, with Emma Hayes, Jonatan Giráldez, and Sonia Bompastor among the nominees.
These awards serve as a testament to the outstanding achievements across global football, recognizing players, coaches, and goalkeepers who have made a lasting impact on the sport over the past year.
