The Enugu State Police Command has issued a directive urging residents to refrain from celebrating Christmas with fireworks and knockouts. Commissioner of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu explained that this measure aims to prevent criminals from exploiting fireworks to commit crimes, reduce panic among the public, and minimize risks to life and property.
The police also warned businesses and individuals involved in the sale or use of fireworks to immediately stop these activities. Parents and guardians were further advised to discourage children from purchasing or using fireworks, emphasizing that violators would face severe legal consequences.
In addition, Uzuegbu cautioned against indiscriminate bush burning during the ongoing harmattan season, stressing the dangers of fire outbreaks, which could lead to loss of lives, destruction of property, and disruption to the community’s social and economic activities.
The Commissioner urged residents to remain law-abiding and vigilant during the festive season, ensuring they do not engage in activities that could threaten public safety. He also encouraged the public to report any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station.
Finally, Uzuegbu wished all residents a peaceful and joyous Christmas celebration.
