- Clark Urges Fairness in Taxation Policies
- Northern Governors Demand Withdrawal of Reform Bills
- Tinubu’s Tax Reforms Face Widespread Opposition
Elder statesman Edwin Clark has criticized the 19 northern governors for opposing the tax reform bills proposed by President Bola Tinubu. Speaking on Sunday during Inside Sources with Laolu Akande, a Channels Television socio-political program, Clark described the governors’ stance as unjustified.
“As far as I am concerned, that tax bill must go on,” Clark affirmed. The tax bills, introduced by Tinubu’s administration, have sparked heated debates and resistance, including collective opposition from the 36 state governors under the National Economic Council (NEC). However, the northern governors recently held a separate meeting to reject parts of the bills and demanded their withdrawal from the National Assembly.
Reacting to this development, Clark, leader of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), condemned their approach. “If 36 of you have met, why are the northern governors meeting again? This double standard and arrogance of power must stop,” he stated.
The elder statesman called on President Tinubu to govern wisely and ensure fairness in the nation’s fiscal policies. He stressed the importance of taxation, urging leaders to consider the sources of funds before distributing resources.
