Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri expressed satisfaction with the peaceful resolution of the Soku oil well dispute with Rivers State. During a visit to Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Diri celebrated the agreement to restore the status quo, ending the dispute and withdrawing the case from court.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Daniel Alabrah, Diri emphasized the importance of continued peaceful relations between the two states for their mutual development. He also commended Fubara for handling the matter of Bayelsa’s demolished property in Port Harcourt, which is still in court, with both states nearing an amicable resolution.
Diri praised the cooperation in addressing vandalism, resulting in the formation of a joint task force to protect critical infrastructure, particularly the power facilities of the Transmission Company of Nigeria. In response, Governor Fubara underscored the interdependence of Rivers and Bayelsa, stressing that their progress was inseparable.
Fubara urged Diri to reinvigorate the BRACED Commission, strengthening collaboration across the Niger Delta region, emphasizing that regional challenges require collective solutions.
