Nigeria Police Force operatives have successfully apprehended a suspected cop killer and dismantled a child-trafficking syndicate during recent operations.
On Monday, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed that the Force Intelligence Department’s Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) had apprehended 35-year-old Ogaga Dickson, a suspect linked to the killing of CSP Hassan Jega, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbarho Division in Delta State. The arrest followed CSP Jega’s tragic death in a gun battle with assailants on October 14, 2024, as he and his team thwarted a robbery attempt.
Adejobi added that, prior to Ogaga’s arrest, police operatives had neutralized four members of the gang during a raid on their hideout, further disrupting their operations. This highlights the police’s determination to dismantle criminal groups and bring them to justice.
The statement further read, “On November 1, 2024, operatives of the FID-IRT arrested Ogaga Dickson, a 35-year-old member of a notorious armed robbery syndicate responsible for the death of CSP Hassan Jega. Jega was killed in a fierce gun battle on October 14, 2024, when his team of officers confronted assailants after foiling one of their robbery attempts.” The police’s swift action in apprehending Ogaga is a major step in ensuring accountability for CSP Jega’s death.
Upon Ogaga’s arrest, police recovered significant items, including one AK-47 rifle, one English pistol, one locally made pistol, ammunition of various calibers, and six exotic vehicles, all of which were believed to be linked to the gang’s criminal activities.
In another operation, on December 2, 2024, police operatives successfully dismantled a child-trafficking syndicate allegedly led by Pastor Dayo Bernard of End Time Army Ministry in Bukuru, Plateau State. This operation resulted in the rescue of five children, aged between 2 and 4, who had been abducted from various homes in Jos, Plateau State.
Adejobi shared that the operation led to the arrest of several members of the syndicate, including Rita Agboeze, Victoria Ugwu, Nanman Puntel, and Peter Ukwuani. During interrogation, the principal suspect, Pastor Bernard, confessed to abducting and selling 13 children at varying prices. All the children have since been recovered and safely reunited with their families through the intervention of the Plateau State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
Furthermore, in line with the Inspector General of Police’s directive to reduce the circulation of illicit arms, FID-IRT operatives successfully recovered 14 AK-47 rifles during the course of their operations. This effort is part of the ongoing commitment to combat illegal firearms and enhance national security.
