Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho representing Kogi East, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Customs, Excise, and Tariffs, has reassured Nigerians that the ongoing recruitment process into the Nigeria Customs Service is transparent and free of fraud.

Speaking on the matter, Senator Echocho emphasized that there is no scam in the recruitment exercise, explaining that the process follows a structured approach, beginning with public advertisements.

“There is nothing like a scam. The process starts with an advert, people apply, and then there is an aptitude test to streamline the number of applicants,” he stated. “Following the test, other stages will be conducted, and federal character must be observed in the final selection.”

He urged applicants to remain patient and prepare adequately for the aptitude test, which serves as the initial screening phase.

Budget Deliberations and Challenges
Addressing the 2024 budget deliberations, Senator Jibril noted that the National Assembly carefully scrutinized budget proposals submitted by the executive. He explained that various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) were invited to defend their budgets in a rigorous but successful process.

“It was a very tasking assignment, but we successfully carried it out. One major issue we encountered was envelope budgeting, where an agency requests a certain amount say N60 billion but ends up receiving only N2 billion,” he revealed.

To address such concerns, the Senate reviewed budget allocations on a case-by-case basis, advocating for increased funding where necessary to ensure optimal performance of agencies.

He assured that the Senate’s inputs were thoroughly considered in the final budget and expressed confidence that the outcome would be beneficial to Nigerians.
