The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a firm directive that prohibits police officers from carrying assault rifles while in civilian attire, also known as mufti. During a virtual meeting with police managers on Monday, the IGP stressed the importance of maintaining professionalism and upholding human rights in all police operations.
Conveyed by Force Spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi, the IGP revealed that numerous complaints regarding rights violations had been reported through the Force’s complaint channels. He underscored that such misconduct would not be tolerated and would result in severe repercussions.
The IGP also issued a stern warning to all tactical squads, urging them to refrain from abusing their power and to ensure they are dressed in their designated uniforms. He emphasized that all tactical units must adhere strictly to standard operating procedures and wear the appropriate uniforms as assigned to their respective teams.
