The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State has urged motorists observing Ramadan to ensure they get enough rest before driving to prevent fatigue-induced crashes. Ota Unit Commander, Mr. Wasiu Ogunmefun, issued this advisory during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday.
Ogunmefun stressed that fasting can lead to fatigue, making it crucial for drivers to rest adequately before getting behind the wheel. “Motorists should rest very well, especially during this Ramadan period, to prevent them from falling asleep while driving, which could lead to accidents,” he cautioned.
He further advised that a minimum of eight hours of sleep is essential to maintain alertness and ensure safer highways. In addition, he reminded motorists to obey all traffic regulations, including avoiding wrong-way driving, which poses a significant risk to road users.
The unit commander reiterated that the FRSC would strictly enforce road safety rules, warning that anyone caught violating traffic laws—especially by driving against traffic—would face arrest and prosecution.
With the Muslim fasting period underway since March 1, the FRSC’s advice aims to mitigate the risks of drowsy driving and enhance overall road safety.
