  • Says his remarks were general, not about the court’s decision
  • Insists he never used the term “reckless” for Supreme Court ruling
  • Emphasizes respect for judiciary despite disagreements

Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has firmly dismissed reports alleging he labeled the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on the Rivers State crisis as “reckless.”

Addressing the controversy on Wednesday via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Obi, a former Labour Party presidential candidate, insisted he never made such a remark.

He explained that his statement—misconstrued by some media outlets—was a general critique of political elites’ indifference to Nigeria’s worsening poverty, not a direct attack on the judiciary.

“At no point did I describe the Supreme Court’s ruling as reckless. Even if I disagree with a verdict, I would never use such language. It is important to set the record straight,” Obi stated.
