Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have dismantled a car theft syndicate, recovering two stolen vehicles and arresting three suspects in connection with the crime.
The breakthrough came on April 11 after officers from the Durumi Police Division responded to a distress call reporting the theft of a gold Toyota Corolla (2005 model) with registration number KUJ 208 DA. The vehicle was reportedly stolen from the owner’s residence.
Acting swiftly, police traced the stolen car to a workshop in Durumi, where it was discovered undergoing illegal modifications. The vehicle’s colour was being changed in an attempt to evade detection and hasten its resale.
Further search of the workshop uncovered another suspected stolen vehicle a red Toyota Corolla bearing registration number GWA 844 CK. Police confirmed it had been reported stolen from a residence in Jikwoyi.
Three suspects Steven Musa, David Dalyol, a painter, and Ibrahim Mohammed, a mechanic were apprehended at the scene. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to being part of a car theft ring that has been operating across several parts of the FCT, including Wuse, Central Area, Jikwoyi, and Bwari.
The suspects reportedly admitted to stealing multiple vehicles, refurbishing them, and reselling them as newer models.
They are currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ajao S. Adewale, psc, mnips, urged vehicle owners to install tracking devices and other anti-theft technologies to improve recovery chances in case of theft.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the safety of lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. The public can reach the police through the following emergency lines: 08032003913, 08033111911, and 07057321547.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, issued the statement on behalf of the Command.
