The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, CP Ajao S. Adewale, psc, mnips, has called on all residents of the FCT to obey traffic regulations as part of efforts to ensure peace, order, and public safety across the capital.
In a statement issued from the Command Headquarters in Abuja, CP Adewale emphasized that adherence to traffic laws is not just a legal obligation but a civic duty vital to national development. He noted that respect for road rules guarantees personal safety and facilitates a smoother and more efficient transportation system.
“Respecting traffic laws ensures not only the safety of the individual but contributes to the overall order and development of society,” CP Adewale stated. “The police are not adversaries; we are partners in progress.”
The Police Commissioner expressed concern over common traffic infractions such as illegal parking, street trading, and disregard for road signs, particularly in high-traffic areas. He warned that such practices lead to congestion, accidents, and pose serious threats to public safety.
CP Adewale urged residents to desist from trading on roads and obstructing traffic, emphasizing that officers on traffic and public safety duty must be allowed to work without hindrance. He cautioned that anyone who assaults or obstructs police personnel would face the full weight of the law.
Reiterating the commitment of the FCT Command to protecting lives and property, CP Adewale encouraged the public to cooperate with the police and report any traffic violations or suspicious activities.
For emergencies and reports, the Command provided the following contact lines: 08032003913, 08033111911, and 07057321547.
The statement was signed by SP Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Police Command.
