Gunmen Strike Again in Southeast Nigeria
Three Policemen Shot Dead at Checkpoint in Enugu Community
At least three police officers have been shot dead by unknown gunmen in Achi, a community in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The attack reportedly occurred at a security checkpoint near Ozudaa Market, plunging residents into fear and panic. The assailants, who are yet to be identified, opened fire on the officers in a brutal ambush.
Though details of the incident remain unclear, a graphic video now circulating online shows the lifeless bodies of the slain officers lying at the scene. The footage, obtained by journalists, confirms the gruesome nature of the attack.
Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer of the Enugu State Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, proved unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls at the time of filing this report.
Security operatives are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident, and it is still unknown if any suspects have been identified or arrested.
The attack adds to a growing list of deadly assaults on law enforcement personnel across the South-East region, where security agencies have repeatedly come under fire in recent years.
