The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced a full lockdown across the Southeast on May 30, 2025, to honor the memory of Biafra heroes and heroines. The lockdown is part of an annual event dedicated to commemorating those who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for Biafra’s liberation.

Emma Powerful, the spokesman for IPOB, stated that May 30th will be observed as a public holiday, urging all Biafrans and supporters of Biafra’s freedom to stay indoors on that day. The day will be marked as the BIAFRA HEROES MEMORIAL DAY, a time for remembering and paying tribute to those who fought for the cause of Biafra.

The announcement emphasizes that this lockdown will be observed throughout Biafran land, with residents advised to refrain from going outside to avoid potential confrontations with Nigerian security forces, particularly the police and military, who may be patrolling the streets. IPOB further warned that those who choose to ignore the lockdown directive would be held responsible for any consequences.

As part of the preparations, IPOB has begun media awareness campaigns, including broadcasts from Radio Biafra, and will be hosting memorial lectures throughout the month of May to further honor Biafran heroes both within Nigeria and abroad. Additionally, transporters have been urged not to operate on May 30, 2025, as part of the broader observance of the lockdown.

IPOB has stressed its commitment to the safety and well-being of the people in the region, calling on all Biafrans to honor this day in remembrance of the sacrifices made for their liberation.
