The defection boosts APC’s senatorial strength to 68 seats
Three senators from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The senators—Adamu Aliero, Yahaya Abdullahi, and Garba Maidoki—are all from Kebbi State.
In their defection letters, read out by Deputy Senate President Sen. Barau Jibrin, the three senators expressed dissatisfaction with the ongoing internal leadership crisis in the PDP. They also conveyed their intention to join President Bola Tinubu and support his Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at transforming Nigeria.
The event was witnessed by APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, and several APC supporters. This move has increased the APC’s senatorial majority to 68 seats, while the PDP’s number drops to 30. Other smaller parties, including the Labour Party, SDP, NNPP, and APGA, hold 5, 2, 1, and 1 seats, respectively.
