Strikes conducted by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) have destroyed a terrorist Improvised Explosive Device (IED) factory and eliminated dozens of fighters in Kwaltiri, located within the Tumbuktu Triangle, Borno State.
NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Edward Ehimen Ejodame, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, noting that the air interdiction was carried out on Tuesday, June 18, following actionable intelligence.
“The 18 June 2025 airstrike followed intelligence reports of terrorist activity in the area,” he said. “Surveillance confirmed the presence of an IED-making site and vehicles, which were struck in precision passes by NAF aircraft.”
According to Ejodame, the operation led to the destruction of gun trucks, terrorist logistics, and command assets. He described the strike as a major blow to the operational capacity of the insurgents.
“The operation is a major blow to terrorists’ fighting capabilities. The successful strikes not only disrupted their command and control as well as logistics chains but also sent shockwaves through their ranks, significantly degrading their morale and operational momentum,” he said.
He further stated that the mission underscores NAF’s continued resolve to weaken terrorist networks and enhance national security, particularly in the troubled Northeast region.
The attack is the latest in a series of coordinated military offensives aimed at dismantling terrorist infrastructure across Borno and surrounding states. Recent operations have seen the destruction of weapons, vehicles, and hideouts used by insurgents.
NAF has also stepped up air support under Operation Hadin Kai, targeting key terrorist enclaves and supply routes.
Military authorities say the ongoing airstrikes are part of intensified efforts to end the insurgency, which has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions in over a decade of violence.
The Nigerian military has urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies, assuring the public of its continued commitment to national peace and stability.
