Corp Commander Says No Ransom Paid for Kidnappings in Recent Weeks

The Western Nigeria Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, in Ondo State has arrested the man suspected of killing Mr. Nelson Adepoyigi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman for Ward 5, Ose Local Government Area.

Adepoyigi was abducted on Monday, May 13, while parking his vehicle at his residence along Ifon/Owo Road in Ifon, the headquarters of Ose LGA.

Confirming the arrest on Monday in Akure, the Commander of the Amotekun Corps in the state, Adetunji Adeleye, revealed that the suspect not only confessed to the crime but also led security operatives to the forest where Adepoyigi’s body was recovered.

“The suspect has confessed and taken us back into the forest where we recovered the body of the deceased and items taken from the family,” Adeleye said.
“We have handed the body and items over to the family.”

Adeleye, while parading 32 suspects arrested for various crimes across the state, stressed that the corps had maintained a no-ransom policy on kidnappings and had ensured that no ransom was paid in the past two weeks.

“On kidnapping, we have 10 suspects and majority of them have victims who identified them. We have two robbery suspects, also with the victims who identified them, while we have one suspect each for rape and anti-grazing,” he disclosed.

Adeleye noted that Ondo State remains relatively peaceful, attributing the security success to the vigilance and support of residents and the directives of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

He also assured farmers and residents of sustained protection by Amotekun operatives stationed deep within the forests.

“We want to assure farmers, especially, that in line with the directives of Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Amotekun rangers remain domiciled in the forest,” Adeleye said, urging residents to report any suspicious activity promptly.
