-Nigeria eyes 10th continental trophy after perfect start
-Madugu confident as Falcons secure quarter-final spot

Super Falcons midfielder Jennifer Echegini has said the Nigerian team is fully focused on winning the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, as they continue their unbeaten run in Morocco.

The nine-time African champions have already secured a spot in the quarter-finals after defeating Tunisia and Botswana in their opening two games of the tournament. The team, coached by Justine Madugu, sits top of their group and will round off their group-stage campaign today against Algeria.

Speaking at a press conference in Casablanca ahead of the clash, Echegini, who plies her trade with Paris Saint-Germain, emphasized the team’s hunger and discipline.

“Right now, we are focusing on Algeria, and after that we will have time to focus on the next opponent regardless of who it is—it does not matter,” she said.

The Super Falcons will face either hosts Morocco or Zambia’s Copper Queens in the next round. Despite the tough fixtures ahead, head coach Madugu has expressed confidence in the squad’s ability to overcome any opponent.

“We are ready to face any team. We understand the demands of this tournament and our goal remains the same—lifting the trophy,” he told reporters.

Meanwhile, Tunisia and Botswana, who both lost to Nigeria, will clash in the other final group match with a slim chance to advance.

The Super Falcons are aiming for a record-extending 10th title, and their performances so far signal a clear intent to reclaim the continental crown.
