Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has opened up about how the heartbreaking loss of his three-year-old son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, in 2022 reshaped his life and career.

Davido and his wife, Chioma, lost Ifeanyi in October 2022 after the child drowned in a swimming pool at the singer’s Banana Island residence in Lagos.

In a recent interview with ABC News’ Rocsi Diaz, the singer revealed that the tragedy forced him to rethink his priorities and find a new focus in his music career.

“Stepping away after losing my son and being able to look back into my career gave me a refocus of how I wanted to move forward. It changed my life,” he said.

Davido praised the resilience he and Chioma showed during their darkest period, describing it as a major victory. “I’m proud of how we bounced back. Now, we got twins—they’re big and shouting everywhere,” he added with a smile.

The singer said the way they handled the loss has inspired countless people. “I know how many people randomly come to me at the airport to tell me how my strength inspired them in hard times. For us to go through the loss of our son and still bounce back in a major way is huge,” he said.
