Governors of Enugu and Ebonyi States, alongside residents, have lauded President Bola Tinubu’s administration for delivering unprecedented federal projects across the South East.
The commendation came during a three-day working tour by the National Communication Team, led by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi described the ongoing interventions as the most significant federal presence in the state since its creation in 1996. In Enugu, Governor Peter Mbah highlighted the wave of federal projects as transformative, linking the developments to improved revenue allocations following fuel subsidy removal and tax reforms.
Among the projects inspected in Enugu were the establishment of an oncological centre for cancer treatment, rehabilitation works on the Enugu–Port Harcourt and Enugu–Onitsha Highways, the 9th Mile–Umulumgbe–Ukehe–Opi Junction reconstruction, and the Eke Obinagu Flyover in Emene. The already completed Port Harcourt–Aba railway is now operational.
Minister Idris announced that $3 billion had been approved for the completion of the 2,044km Eastern Rail Line, while $508 million would modernise Eastern Port infrastructure. In Ebonyi, federal works include the Calabar–Abuja Super Highway, complemented by state-led projects such as an ICT University in Oferekpe, new housing estates, and the Vanco Flyover with twin underground tunnels in Abakaliki, due for completion in 2026.
The tour also featured a town hall meeting in Abakaliki and a courtesy visit to the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, who provided updates on nationwide road and bridge projects.
Onanuga stressed that the acknowledgements from Enugu and Ebonyi underscored President Tinubu’s commitment to equitable development across the country under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
