The Federal Government has announced plans to roll out fresh cash transfers to 2.2 million households across the country before the end of August 2025.
Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Tanko Sununu, disclosed this in an interview with Channels Television on Monday.
Sununu revealed that the scheme, designed as a rapid conditional cash transfer for vulnerable citizens, has so far gulped N419 billion, reaching over five million Nigerians.
According to him, the National Social Safety-Net Coordinating Office (NASSCO) will extract beneficiaries from the national social register, targeting those on the lowest economic rung.
βIn the next few days, before the end of August, we are going to reach out to 2.2 million households,β the minister stated.
He further explained that 71 percent of the disbursement went to northern Nigeria, while 21 percent was distributed in the southern region under the initiative.
