The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) has dismissed widespread rumors circulating on social media about the death of its Managing Director, Ali Nuhu.
The speculation began after a Facebook user, Ifeoma Chigbo, posted a video claiming that the Nollywood star had passed away, while expressing hope the news was false. Another post later alleged that Nuhu died in a fatal car crash.
But in a statement issued on Monday evening, Brian Etuk, Director of Public Affairs at the NFC, branded the claims as “false and malicious,” stressing that the celebrated actor and filmmaker is “alive, well, and fully discharging his responsibilities.”
“The attention of the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) has been drawn to the purported passing of Dr. Ali Nuhu, its current Managing Director/Chief Executive, being orchestrated within the social media space,” the statement read. “The reports, including videos laced with his pictures, are not only malicious and injurious but false in their entirety.”
Nuhu, who was appointed by President Bola Tinubu on February 12, 2024, continues to head the agency.
The NFC further warned that action is being taken against those behind the misinformation campaign.
“NFC wishes to draw the attention of perpetrators of these uncouth and dastardly acts, including their sponsors, to the dire and unmistakable consequences of their actions,” the statement warned, adding that measures have been initiated to curb the spread of such falsehoods.
The Corporation also thanked the public and stakeholders for their concern, assuring that its chief executive remains active in office.
