Nigeria has lost one of its seasoned diplomats, Ambassador Taofik Obasanjo Coker, who until recently served as the country’s Consul-General in Buea, Cameroon.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed his death in a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa. According to the Ministry, Coker died on Saturday, August 16, after a brief illness.
Describing him as a “hardworking and dedicated career diplomat,” the Ministry noted that Coker represented Nigeria with professionalism and distinction during his decades-long service.
His diplomatic career spanned several postings, including Conakry, Guinea, and Shanghai, China, before his final assignment in Cameroon.
“The untimely death of Ambassador Coker is a great loss to the diplomatic community and the nation at large,” the Ministry stated while extending condolences to his family, colleagues, and friends.
The Ministry prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and comfort for those he left behind.
