GAZA CITY — Israel has warned Palestinians that a full evacuation of Gaza City is “inevitable” as its military intensifies operations to seize control of Hamas’s last stronghold.

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee urged families to flee south, promising “the most generous humanitarian aid” to those who relocate.

Israeli tanks pushed into the Ibad al-Rahman district overnight, triggering panic. “We heard explosions getting louder,” said Saad Abed, a resident nearby. “People were fleeing toward our area.”

Although tanks later pulled back to Jabalia, bombardments continued across several districts — Shejaiya, Zeitoun, and Sabra. Israel confirmed troops were engaged in combat and claimed they eliminated a “terrorist cell” and discovered a weapons cache.

The military’s latest push comes after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to conquer the entire Gaza Strip, following a collapse in ceasefire talks with Hamas last month.

Yet, domestic pressure is mounting. On Tuesday, tens of thousands protested in Tel Aviv, demanding a hostage release deal. Of the 50 remaining hostages, only 20 are believed to be alive.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump is set to chair a White House meeting on Wednesday to discuss post-war plans for Gaza. Aides say the U.S. is crafting a “very comprehensive” strategy, though details remain scarce.

Humanitarian groups and the UN have warned that an offensive in Gaza City could spark catastrophic consequences. Over 62,900 Palestinians have died since the war began in October 2023, according to Gaza’s health ministry.

More than 90% of homes are damaged or destroyed. Famine has gripped much of Gaza City, and critical infrastructure — from hospitals to sanitation — has collapsed.

Despite global pressure, Israel’s military campaign shows no sign of slowing.
