  • Zone 17 AIG says police adopting friendlier, people-oriented approach
  • Community engagement and officer training credited for improved trust
  • Citizens urged to freely share intelligence with police leadership

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 17, Ondo and Ekiti States, Ajani Omolabi, says the Nigeria Police Force has shifted from a “bossy” approach to a more civil and people-friendly style of policing.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Omolabi explained that the change has strengthened public trust, making it easier for the police to gather intelligence for crime fighting.

“The police have become civil rather than being bossy. We now engage people at their level, build understanding, and this helps us to get information more easily,” he said.

He noted that an open-door policy, training seminars, and community-level engagement have improved professionalism and transparency among officers. Meetings with community leaders, he added, have encouraged citizens to approach Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Commissioners of Police, or even his office directly with information, assuring them of full protection.

Omolabi urged Nigerians to see the police as partners in ensuring safety, emphasizing that officers remain servants of the people.
