Tension is brewing within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as its National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has accused the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, of making “ignorant and misleading” statements capable of deepening divisions within the opposition party.

Ologunagba had reportedly downplayed Anyanwu’s powers, claiming that the National Secretary’s duties were limited to administrative functions such as managing day-to-day activities, handling correspondences, and implementing directives from party leadership.

Reacting through his media aide, Ikenna Onuoha, Anyanwu described Ologunagba’s position as “ridiculous” and “a clear display of ignorance” of the PDP Constitution. He maintained that the National Secretary plays a central role in the party’s administration beyond mere paperwork.

“This statement, if indeed it came from a supposed party spokesperson, shows he lacks basic understanding of the provisions of the PDP Constitution regarding the duties, functions, and programmes of the National Secretary,” Onuoha said.

He further accused Ologunagba of mischief-making and urged him to familiarize himself with Section 36(1) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended), which clearly outlines the powers and responsibilities of the office.

Onuoha stressed that Senator Anyanwu’s actions are guided strictly by the party’s constitution and called on Ologunagba to focus on strategies that would unify and strengthen the PDP rather than fueling internal strife.

The latest spat adds to a growing list of internal disagreements threatening cohesion within the party ahead of crucial political realignments.
