The Senate on Thursday confirmed Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after a brief screening session at the National Assembly.
Doro, a technocrat from Plateau State, was screened and confirmed within 30 minutes following commendations from senators who praised his qualifications and leadership record.
During the session, Doro assured lawmakers of his commitment to transparency and fairness in managing Nigeria’s humanitarian interventions.
“I will create a humanitarian ecosystem that is inclusive, guided by impartiality and independence,” he said.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who presided over the plenary, read a letter from President Bola Tinubu seeking Doro’s confirmation in line with Section 147 (2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
Doro’s nomination followed the elevation of his predecessor, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga described the new minister as a seasoned professional with more than two decades of experience across healthcare, pharmaceutical management, and leadership roles in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
Born on January 23, 1969, in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Doro holds degrees in Pharmacy and Law, an MBA in IT-driven business strategy, and a Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice.
He is also an Independent Prescriber and Advanced Clinical Practitioner with extensive NHS frontline experience in urgent care, walk-in centres, general practice, and hospital settings in the UK.
With Thursday’s confirmation, Dr. Doro is expected to be sworn in at the next meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
