Nollywood actress Regina Daniels has declared that she was never legally married to her estranged husband, Ned Nwoko, insisting their relationship lacked any formal or legal backing.
In an emotional statement posted on Instagram early Sunday, the actress admitted to using drugs but maintained that the real cause of their fallout was Nwoko’s alleged attempts to isolate her from her family and friends.
“Fine, I did drugs. So what? Is that even the issue between us? The moment we had a fight, you rushed to the public shouting ‘drugs, drugs, drugs,’ because you knew it would make a perfect story for the media — something dramatic enough to distract everyone from the real issue,” Daniels wrote.
The actress accused the lawmaker of seizing her phones for weeks, preventing her from communicating with her family, and keeping her locked away in a room while labeling her mentally unstable whenever she tried to leave the relationship.
“You want to find a reason to arrest everyone around me so that I will have no one left beside me, no friend, no support, no safe place to turn to. Then when I’m completely isolated and broken, I will be forced to come back to you because I will have nowhere else to go,” she alleged.
Daniels further stated that their problems began when she decided she no longer wanted to be with him. “Every problem we have had started when I no longer wanted you, whether sober or even high. Tell people the truth,” she added.
The couple, who had drawn widespread public attention over their controversial union, are yet to make any official legal statements regarding their current relationship status.
