The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has asked the Court of Appeal to halt further proceedings in his terrorism trial before Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

In a motion filed before the appellate court, Kanu prayed for a stay of judgment scheduled for November 20, arguing that the trial should not continue until his appeal is determined.

His legal team anchored the application on Section 36(1) of the 1999 Constitution, insisting that proceeding with the case would violate his right to fair hearing.

Justice Omotosho had earlier fixed November 20 to deliver judgment in the terrorism charges filed by the Federal Government against the IPOB leader. However, Kanu’s latest move could delay the ruling.

The IPOB has repeatedly maintained that Kanu cannot be tried under the provisions of a repealed law, the Terrorism Act, describing the charges as unconstitutional.
