Business activities across Adamawa and Taraba states will slow down next week as the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) begins a week-long power shutdown for major grid maintenance.

In a statement issued Wednesday, YEDC said the outage—scheduled from 9:00 a.m. on Monday, December 1 to Monday, December 8, 2025—will cut power supply to several communities while engineers carry out critical rehabilitation work.

According to the company, the shutdown will enable MBH Power Contractor to overhaul and reinforce key infrastructure at the 330/132 kV and 132/33 kV transmission station in Mayo-Belwa, Adamawa State. The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) confirmed that the project also includes connecting a turn-in-turn-out 330 kV line, a development expected to boost grid stability and improve reliability across the region.

YEDC added that power supply from both the Mayo-Belwa and Jalingo transmission stations will be unavailable throughout the maintenance period.

Communities that will experience a total blackout include Jalingo, Zing, Lau, Mutum-Biyu, Mayo-Belwa, Jeda, Ganye, and Toungo.

The company urged residents to prepare for the outage, remain vigilant around electrical installations, and report suspicious activities to support a smooth restoration process. YEDC also appreciated customers for their patience and cooperation during the upgrade.
