Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Brad Friedel has backed Manchester City to overtake Arsenal in the Premier League title run-in, insisting the champions will “catch” the Gunners despite their current deficit.

Friedel reacted to City’s dramatic 5–4 victory over Fulham on Tuesday night, a result that slashed Arsenal’s lead at the top to just two points. Mikel Arteta’s men can restore a five-point cushion when they host Brentford tonight at the Emirates Stadium.

But the former U.S. international believes City’s experience and resilience will eventually tilt the race in their favour.

“I think Man City will catch Arsenal,” Friedel told talkSPORT. “Arsenal are the best team right now; they’re playing the best football. But when it gets to March and April, with Europe and the FA Cup still in the mix, if they pick up one or two wrong injuries, that could change everything.

“Man City have already had their dip. They’ve fallen off and now they’re on the mend. I think they’re going to start coming up.”

Friedel’s comments add fresh fuel to an already intense title contest as both clubs brace for a decisive phase of the season.
