A major political momentum has gathered in Kano State as former local government chairmen who served between 2019 and 2022 have unanimously adopted the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) sole candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The endorsement took place on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to Senator Barau at the National Assembly in Abuja. The motion was initiated by Barr. Dahiru Mannir Maigari, former chairman of Rimin Gado LGA, and seconded by Hon. Baffa Mohammed Takai, former ALGON chairman in Kano. When put to a vote by Alhaji Mohammed Yahaya (former Madobi chairman), the adoption received a unanimous approval through a loud voice vote.

Two members of the Kano State House of Assembly—Hon. Zubairu Hamza Masu (Sumaila) and Hon. Garba Yau Gwarmai (Tsanyawa/Ghari)—were present as witnesses.

In a statement issued by Senator Barau’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Malam Ismail Mudashir, the former LG chairmen urged the Senator to officially declare for the governorship race without delay, insisting that Kano people—especially at the grassroots—were eagerly waiting.

Alhaji Khalid Ishak Diso, former chairman of Gwale LGA, emphasized the urgency:
Kano people are waiting for your declaration. The call is loud and clear. Please answer the call to serve.

ALGON’s former chairman, Hon. Baffa Takai, reaffirmed the group’s total support, citing Senator Barau’s exemplary performance in the National Assembly and his contributions to Kano’s development.

Insha’Allah, you will be the next governor of Kano State. You have the capacity to address the challenges facing our state,” he said.

Responding, Senator Barau thanked the delegation, describing them as true grassroots mobilizers. He lamented Kano’s decline in commerce and development, attributing it to weak leadership, and vowed to restore the state to its former glory.

Kano was once second only to Lagos, but leadership failures have dragged us backward. By God’s grace, we will take bold steps to revive our dear state,” he said.

Tsanyawa, Ghari Leaders Join Endorsement Wave

In a separate visit, over 100 stakeholders from Tsanyawa and Ghari LGAs also endorsed Senator Barau. The motion was moved by Hon. Garba Yau Gwarmai and seconded by Hon. Aminu Yakanawa, followed by a thunderous approval from the crowd.

Yakanawa declared:
By the grace of Allah, you are the next governor of Kano State. Our people are solidly behind you.

Senator Barau appreciated their support, noting that the widespread endorsements across Kano were a strong indication of what to expect in 2027. He also assured the communities of ongoing efforts to address lingering security challenges in Tsanyawa and Shanono.

We are not leaving any stone unturned. We are tackling the security issues underground, and all necessary measures have been taken,” he stated.
