Nigeria’s former Chief Justice, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, has died at the age of 71.

Justice Muhammad passed away at a hospital in Saudi Arabia, barely two weeks before his 72nd birthday, which would have come up on December 31.

The Nigerian Association of Muslim Law Students (NAMLAS) confirmed his death in a condolence statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja.

In the statement titled “NAMLAS Condolence Message on the Passing of Hon. Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, GCON, Former Chief Justice of Nigeria,” the association described his demise as a profound loss to the nation and the legal profession.

The group expressed grief over his passing, noting that his contributions to Nigeria’s judiciary would be remembered. It added, “Indeed, to Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return.”
