A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bashir Bakari, has formally resigned from the party, blaming persistent exclusion, poor recognition, and what he described as a lack of internal democracy.
Bakari, from Majidadi Ward in Jalingo Local Government Area of Taraba State, announced his exit in a letter addressed to the APC Ward Chairman, stating that the resignation takes immediate effect.
In the letter, Bakari said his decision followed years of loyalty and active service to the party that went largely unacknowledged. He recalled contesting as an aspirant for the Jalingo II State Constituency in the 2023 general elections and serving as a member of the Tinubu Presidential Campaign Council (TPCC) during the same election cycle.
Despite these contributions, he said he faced sustained marginalisation and unfair treatment, conditions he noted eroded his confidence in the party’s commitment to inclusiveness and democratic principles.
Bakari explained that he reached the decision after wide consultations with his supporters and key stakeholders. He added that he plans to explore alternative political platforms where his experience, capacity, and aspirations can be better harnessed.
His resignation adds to the growing list of party stakeholders expressing dissatisfaction with internal party processes ahead of future electoral contests.
