Manchester City are now breathing down the necks of Arsenal after a vital 2-1 victory on Sunday. Erling Haaland scored the winning goal, landing a massive blow in the Premier League title race. Pep Guardiola’s squad sits just three points behind the leaders with a crucial game in hand. Meanwhile, Arsenal are struggling to maintain their form as they chase a first league trophy in 22 years.

The match sparkled with drama from the start. Rayan Cherki opened the scoring for the hosts with a brilliant solo run, weaving past Declan Rice to finish calmly. However, a huge mistake by goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma allowed Kai Havertz to equalise for the visitors. Despite this lifeline, the Gunners lacked clinical finishing. Both Martin Odegaard and Eberechi Eze came incredibly close to scoring, with Eze’s shot agonisingly hitting the post and rolling across the line.

Manchester City took full advantage of their luck. Erling Haaland showed his immense strength to beat Gabriel Magalhaes to a cross, netting his 34th goal of the season. Late in the game, Arsenal missed a golden opportunity when Kai Havertz headed over the bar from close range. This defeat marks a difficult period for Mikel Arteta’s side, who have now lost four domestic games in a row.

Victory against Burnley on Wednesday would see City move into first place. While Arsenal have a theoretically easier run of fixtures remaining, they seem to be losing momentum at the worst possible time. The Premier League title race is now firmly in City’s hands as they look to overtake their London rivals in the final weeks of the season.

Do you believe Arsenal have the mental strength to recover and win their final five matches?
