Wolverhampton Wanderers have been officially relegated from the Premier League after West Ham United played out a goalless draw with Crystal Palace on Monday. The result leaves Wolves 16 points behind safety with only five matches remaining, confirming their drop to the Championship.
It has been a difficult season for Wolves, who have managed just three wins in 33 league matches. Despite impressive victories over Aston Villa and Liverpool, the club struggled for consistency and spent much of the campaign near the bottom of the table. Their eight-year stay in the Premier League now comes to an end.
Manager Rob Edwards, who took charge in November, faced a tough task from the start. He replaced Vitor Pereira, who left after a poor run of results early in the season. Edwards could not turn things around, despite efforts to steady the team.
Elsewhere, Burnley also sit close to relegation and could join Wolves if they lose to Manchester City. Tottenham Hotspur nearly escaped the drop zone but conceded a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw with Brighton, extending their winless run. Under new manager Roberto De Zerbi, Spurs are still searching for form.
Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest and Leeds United boosted their survival hopes with key wins at the weekend. At the other end, Coventry City, led by Frank Lampard, secured promotion back to the top flight after 25 years in the Championship.
