President Bola Tinubu has formally asked the Senate to screen and confirm Joseph Tegbe minister nomination, marking a fresh development in Nigeria’s political landscape. The request, read on Tuesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, follows constitutional provisions guiding such appointments.
In the letter, Tinubu stated, “In compliance with the provisions of section 147 subsection 2 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1991 as amended, I am pleased to forward for confirmation by the Senate the nomination of Mr Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.” He also urged lawmakers to act swiftly, adding, “While I hope this request will receive the expeditious consideration of the Senate, please accept, Distinguished Senate President, Distinguished Senators, the assurances of my highest regards.”
Akpabio confirmed that the Senate would treat the Joseph Tegbe minister nomination with urgency, referring it to the Committee of the Whole for prompt review. This step signals the start of the confirmation process required for ministerial appointments.
Joseph Tegbe, who hails from Oyo State, brings over 35 years of experience in both public and private sectors. Known as a fiscal policy expert, he previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major reforms in governance, institutional change, and regulatory frameworks. His background also includes advising government bodies and private organisations on strategic planning and investment structures.
The Joseph Tegbe minister nomination follows the resignation of Adebayo Adelabu as Minister of Power, as he prepares to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State.
Do you think Joseph Tegbe’s experience will influence his confirmation process?
